La Bonita Water Facility

La Bonita Water Facility

City of La Habra

Location

La Habra, California

Date

2012

Type

Pump Station

Project Description

For nearly a quarter of the cost it would take La Habra to buy water from the Metropolitan Water District, the city is now pumping it from the ground with the completion of the $10.1 million La Bonita Park Water Facility. GPa developed the design of the pump station, storage building, and restroom facility inside the existing park.

Along with building the water-pumping facilities, the city also added a combination futsal (a soccer hybrid) field and basketball court, a new softball batting cage, and new bathrooms. The skateboarding park was kept open during construction.

The expanded parking lot – by 12 spaces – sits atop of an underground reservoir in which water is pumped from the new 18-inch pipe drilled 1,000 feet down into the La Habra Basin. In the reservoir, the groundwater is mixed with water purchased.
